Letter challenge: your parents

Image
Dear Ma & Pa, I am inspired by the love you have with each other. I hope someday I am going to be with a man who's willing to share everything in good times and bad times. Just like you. I can't say anything else, but I miss you everyday. I just wish you are still alive to guide me through, but even if you are gone by sight, you will always be in my heart. I know you will always be there for me. You're the only strength I got to live this life. Thank you for raising us well. I love you more than anything else. Your little daughter, Debie

Life gets risky at some point but I hope you hold on

Image
At one point in my life, I became a drama queen. There were nights when I just cry buckets of tears without any specific reason at all. I cry because life in general gets so complicated that I couldn't find a way where to go. It seems like everything just shut down, leaving me hopeless. The only thing that makes me calm is the thought of buying myself cupcakes after a good cry. It helped. Somehow. It went on and on until I realized that maybe it's time to change how I see things. I forced myself and took the risk. At first, I was afraid of taking the risk. What if it's all wrong? Surprisingly, I gathered everything I have and I feel stronger and somehow stable. It feels good. Having to stand for yourself does you good. Plus, it makes you feel good. It's good to know your worth. And surely you are worthy of all the good things and a little of bad things, too. Because life is a share of good and bad. It depends on how you see and react to things. Life isn't goin...

Art for Earth -- an art exhibit

Image
ART FOR EARTH is an exhibit of Filipino artists held at Abreeza Mall, Davao City, Philippines. It's been a while since I have been to art exhibits. So when I heard about this, I promised myself not to miss it. Looking at those art pieces of different mediums, I stared at them for a while having a private moment with each of my favorites. It's my dream to become an artist and to create something beautiful for the world to see. I loved how I wasted my time looking through these pieces and just appreciate how lovely they are! I would love to have these (or any nature-inspired pieces) in my future home someday. :) My favorites are shown in the collage shown above: 1. "Children of Earth" by Jun Cayas. (He was my Introduction to Arts Appreciation professor at Ateneo de Davao University 5 years ago) 2. "Antaytelo" by Victor Augustus Dumaguing 3. "Salhig Tundo" by Victor Augustus Dumaguing 4. "A Shade of Green #2" ...

Another Sad (kind of) Sunday

Sometimes, even when I say to myself to always blow away the dark clouds that are slowly forming under my sanctuary, a beautiful scenery of greens and different colors of blooms, I let it be and pour some rain on me. Even when these people aren't supposed to be entertained because you are more than them and no matter how many times they give you depressing feelings that you've been ignoring, you give in because you are weak. I don't know why these people love making emotional pain to everyone all over the world. I don't know why they like seeing people sad, weak and vulnerable. I do know one fact though. I know for sure that they are insecure because they were never happy. Perhaps they don't know how to appreciate other things. Perhaps they haven't been truly happy all their life. Perhaps they don't know how easy it is to give true love without asking anything in return. Perhaps they were beaten and wasn't able to move on because they choose not ...

Blog Challenge: Your highs and lows of this past year

Image
Action Sampler loaded with 35 mm redscale film A year ago was too long ago to remember each of the highs and lows. But definitely not too long ago to remember the feel of those smiles and frowns. A year ago, I was fine. The girl who still has the same dreams as now but for sure has achieved some of her dreams from years ago. It seems to me that, whenever I look back, all those smiles and frowns meant something for something that could be happening now or tomorrow, or a day after tomorrow. There were detours, right decisions and bad decisions as well. There were satisfying and breaking moments as well. There was always a share of good and bad. Yin and Yang.

How to take care of your dry eyes?

Image
Last February, I visited the Ophthalmology clinic in Davao Medical Center to have my left eye checked. I've been wearing eye glasses since high school and I have astigmatism but my complaint was this tiny black spot lying on the upper part of my eye. It's not visible except when I raise my lid. It's slowly forming a stye and I want to prevent it from fully forming because I have a project defense to make in the next few weeks. Also because it was itchy. It was totally a hassle! My sister, who is a nurse, told me it could be because of stress. I admit I am stressed out during those days but I always keep on thinking about other possibilities. Maybe I have diabetes? Glaucoma? Other dangerous disease?  I am a warrior (kind of) in some aspects of life but when I stumble upon health issues, I'm a worrier. I cried every night because I always thought I have an unknown disease! My eyes were examined and the doctor told me I have dry eyes. And the black spot? It is ...

Have some tea.

Image
How about a cup of tea before bedtime?  Things have been difficult lately but at the end of the day I always make sure to relax my mind and drink a cup of tea. The bipolar weather worries me a lot. April is the hottest month yet. Although, from where I am, we experience rain sometimes but then it always pour for about a little while and then it gets hot again. I can still remember how April was last year -- scorching hot! I guess it's still the same for this year except that I keep changing clothes because the heat makes me sweat a lot! Crazy. Anyway, I've been dealing with different things this summer but sadly, I have no plans about going to the beach. I always plan for summer getaways every year but now I'd rather stay in and be a hermit for some days (and then eventually months). I enjoy making crafts now in my little studio (aka messy bedroom). Also, I've been doing a lot of cooking and reading and cleaning and gardening and some other indoor things lik...

Durian Fruit

Image
One of my favorite fruits is Durian. Its shell has sharp spikes and has an irregular circular shape. Once you crack it open, its smell stays inside your nose. Most people say it smells like rotten onions (or other bad rotten stuff) but it smells heavenly to me as well as how it tastes. Honestly, I don't understand why people hate this fruit. I can eat this all day long. Actually, I eat this in moderation. Two servings of durian will make your body warm and make you feel drunk (haha!). It's different for other people but for me two to three servings are enough. I remember when I was younger, I finished more than 7 servings without feeling anything. Now that I am older, I am conscious about my eating habits.  Just like other fruits, durian has benefits as well. I have heard that it can cure dengue fever. They said it can do wonders in the platelet count of the patient. Aside from that, among other health benefits, it has vitamin C and definitely has lots of fibe...
